Key Tax Dates and Information

January 31 - Self-assessment Tax Return Deadline
This is the final deadline for online tax returns for the previous tax year (April 6th to April 5th). It is also the deadline for paying any tax owed.
February 2 - Self Assessment Late Payment Penalty
A penalty of 5% of any unpaid tax due by January 31st is charged if not paid within 30 days.
April 5 - End of Tax Year
The UK tax year ends on April 5th, meaning all annual accounting must be finalised and prepared for tax filing.
April 6 - Start of the New Tax Year
The new tax year begins, bringing any updates to tax codes and allowances into effect.
May 31 - P60 Deadline
Employers must issue this form to all employees on their payroll who are working for them on the last day of the tax year (April 5).
July 31 - Second Payment on Account
This is the deadline for the second 'payment on account' for self-assessment tax bills (an advance payment towards your next tax bill).
October 5 - Deadline to Register for Self-Assessment
If you have not submitted a tax return before but need to do so, you must register by this date.
October 31 - Paper Self-Assessment Return Deadline
Deadline for paper self-assessment returns for the current tax year. Online submissions have until January 31st.
December 30 - Self-assessment through PAYE
If you owe less than £3,000 on your tax bill and want it collected through your PAYE (Pay As You Earn) tax code, you must submit your online self-assessment by this date.
March 31 - End of Fiscal Year for Government
This date marks the end of the UK government's fiscal year, which is significant for public sector accounting and budgeting.

Basic VAT Calculator Instructions

Enter Numbers:

Use the numeric keypad (1-9, 0) to enter the amount you wish to calculate.

The decimal point (.) button can be used if you need to enter cents or pence.

Choosing VAT Rate:

Adjust the VAT rate by moving the slider left or right. The VAT rate is displayed above the slider and can be set anywhere from 1% to 50%.

Calculating VAT:

Add VAT:

Once you have entered your amount, press the “Add VAT” button to calculate the price including VAT.

This will add the specified percentage of VAT to your base amount.

Remove VAT:

If your amount already includes VAT and you wish to find the base price, press the “Remove VAT” button. This will calculate and display the amount excluding VAT.

Resetting the Calculator:

Clear All (CA):

To start over with new calculations, press the “CA” button. This will clear all inputs and reset the display to zero.

Additional Tips:

Ensure that you enter the correct amount before selecting to add or remove VAT.
You can continuously adjust the VAT rate as needed before making a calculation. The calculator displays the current input and results in real-time, allowing for quick adjustments.
